Memories on this night

"I was a student at the London School of Economics from 1964 to 1967 and then lived in London for another year before emigrating to Canada. I used to go to the Marquee from time to time, mainly to see Chris Barber (and I remember seeing Steve Winwood in the audience on one of those occasions). More to the point, I was actually one of those very few people who was at the first date by the Who. I know this has been claimed by thousands, but I remember it very well. I was expecting to see and hear a trad band of the time, Dick Charlesworth and The City Gents, but they couldn't make it and there was this substitute rock band, some nonentities from Shepherd's Bush. :) I remember being not too impressed, largely because it wasn't who I expected to hear."
