The Marquee Club - A tribute site dedicated to the history of the legendary Marquee club at London's 90 Wardour street.

14-june-1970 Genesis

DATE: Sunday, 14th, June, 1970
LOCATION: 90 Wardour Street
MAIN ACT: Genesis
BAND MEMBERS: Peter Gabriel (vocals), Tony Banks (keyboards), Mike Rutherford (bass), Anthony Phillips (guitar), John Matthew (drums)

Genesis played at the Marquee club in June 1970 after they were discovered by Charisma label's chairman, Tony Stratton-Smith and had signed a productive record deal that would last for many years in the career of the band. The evening was presented as part of a series of "Marquee Sunday Specials by Tony Stratton-Smith" nights at the club featuring different artists on the label. Stratton, who was one of the most attached characters in London's music industry to the Marquee club, got a couple of gigs for the band in May and June 1970, during the period of rehearsals for the forthcoming album. "Trespass" was released in the summer of 1970 at Trident studios close to the Marquee club and was released in October that year.
